Distia du Royaume de Sain Bel,
the future mother! Only a few day lefts...
We had the chance to welcome our little Distia in our family in the beginning of September 2008 and every day we share with her is soooo lovely. She's really playful and every situation is an occasion to play with us... or with Adrech that has difficulties to deploy the same amount of energy ! Obviously, since she's pregnant, she play less and sleep more, but still she can't resist to the temptation of her feather duster ! Since the beginning of her gestation, she could devote more time to her favorite hobby: sleeping under sunrays or sleeping with (or more specifically "ON") Adrech. This miss "kisses" lives to get attention in the form of caresses or kisses on her head !
This magnificent female came from the Cattery "La chatterie des Bengals du Royaume de Sain Bel". Her coat is the rare Brown Marbled Tabby, however she have the even rarer double tone swirls (the marbled pattern in not made of solid color, but rather two colors, a lighter shade bordered by a darker area).
We are thankfull to Laeticia in allowing us to get this more-than-lovely phenomenon. Moreover, the complete confidence Distia have and affection toward human being would not have been possible without the real affection and dedication to cats that Laeticia, Hervé and her 3 children have. Meeting the Ravassard family was also a nice occasion to met persons who are now friends ! Thanks for all !
As for Adrech, Distia has a specific meaning. Distia mean in Basque "blast of light”, “sunrays” “rays of light". Since we are now living in the Basque country we have chosen a name that remember us this lovely place.
She developed her personality and every day we see a new facet of this lovely cat, from her 'kittenhood' to the adulthood, and know during her gestation. Such periods are incredibly interesting. While it is true for all animals that share there live with humans, I found Bengal surprisingly complex in their personality; clearly each individual is REALLY different. We could define Distia as dynamic and resolute. If she wants something she'll get it and she will do whatever she could to get it... Shyness is something she don't know, not even in her wildest dreams! Besides that, she's incredibly affectionate, only looking at her and talking gently suffice to make her purring! Once coming to sleep in the bed with us, as soon as she locate "the ultimate" spot to rest for the night, she start purring ! She's an extravert; she won't miss an occasion to let you know that she's happy.
Since she was a little kitten (as noted well before us by her former family), as soon we open a tuna can (in water it's better), it's clear that she don't even consider possible that it's not for her (it's basically the only time when she's mewing out long (REALLY loud!, we can't fake we didn't notice).
She likes so much tuna that she even stop eating once in a while to mew and to purr out loud to make clear that you make her the best gif possible ! For the food generally (read: "non-tuna"), she eat normally as you'll expect for a cat (drink some milk, like meat, fish, etc.). The funny thing we observed almost every day: she don't understand Adrech's food preferences... she stand next to him looking her lovely one eating delighted what’s looks like "weird" things rather than cat food... and every time she smells what he's eating and every time she looks like the same: mystified!
What's belongs to Distia, belongs to Distia... her plate in which we put the tuna (we will put online a movie soon!), her tent, her cushion, her male... every males (all species !). Don't be fooled, she's not aggressive at all, she only take position so nobody could get access to what she considers her and she don't want to share her stuff. For example, the new red cushion (new as of April 26 !). As soon as she sit on it, she don't even allows Adrech to try it ! She spend the whole night in it, expulsing Adrech everything he try to get access to it...
Distia loves everybody, she's not shy and play readily with everyone who are willing to play with her (or simply get petted by anybody who enter in the house !). However, she clearly have a preference for men ! In a mixed group, she'll always be nearby men or simply stand in front of them ! Why she behaving like this... we can't say as she always had a lot of attention and love from women (or girls) since her birth. Albeit she have a special relationship with Tiphanie (for playing, sleeping, or else), but many times per day, she come in front of me (Fred) and look at me purring even if I ain't touch her...and she did exactly the same for every men who has entered in our house ! In comparison, Adrech has no special preferences for men or women.
